Bags For Vacuum Sealers
 
vacuum seal bags There are two kinds of bags for vacuum sealers:
  • Vacuum seal bags with internal structure are required for all sealers, where part of the bag remains outside of the machine. These bags have a rough structure on one of the inside layers of the bag. The image below shows the microstructure on the marmelot bags, but also groves or other structures are available. Once the open end of the bag is placed inside the machine and the lid is used to clamp it tight, the structure allows air to escape from the bag. If a plain bag -without internal structure - is placed in these types of sealers, the bag is closed airtight by the lid and pumps cannot remove the air in the bag. The bags will be sealed, but with the air trapped inside.

    These types of vacuum sealers are typically relatively small table-top machines. They have a small vacuum chamber. The open end of the bag is placed in it and a lid is used to simultaneously close the chamber, clamp the bag in position and push it against the thermal sealing strip. These sealers are your best choice for home vacuum sealing (e.g. for food preservation and safe storage of other items) or incidental professional use for food storage or volume reduction (e.g. web shops selling clothes or compressible materials).

    Marmelot offers a large variety of bags as well as vacuum foil on a roll. These bags and the foil have a microstructure on one side, the other side is completely transparent. These bags are suited for all sealer brands requiring bags with internal structure.

    Always choose your bags in the right size. Your product should fit comfortably. Keep in mind that the bag should be several cm longer than your product so it can be placed in the vacuum chamber of the sealer. If the bag is too small, it will not seal very well. If the bag is too large, it will take longer to pump and seal it and it will require more storage space.

    Keep in mind the width of your sealer. The smaller -open- side of the bag should fit into your sealer.

    Tip: in many sealers it is possible to use wider bags by first sealing one or two corners. In this way the open part of the bag can be reduced to the width of the vacuum chamber and seal strip.

      Order Seal Bags with Structure  

  • Plain seal bags are used in vacuum sealers with a large vacuum chamber. The bag is placed completely inside the vacuum chambers. These sealers are used for intensive professional use. They are relatively large and expensive. Moreover, their heavy pumps require regular service and oil changes (the small sealers mentioned above typically have pumps that do not require any service during their lifetime). In case you seal more than about 250 bags per week, a professional vacuum sealer with a chamber may be a good investment due to the lower price of the plain vacuum bags. Other advantages of these type of sealers are that the bags are fully transparent on both sides and that a protective gas can be used to protect your product. The small vacuumsealers with a lid only limit the width of the bag, allowing for any desired length. For vacuum chamber sealers, the size of the chamber limits the maximum size of the bag.

Vacuum seal bags or vacuum foil on a roll

foil om rollA frequently asked question concerns the difference between sealer bags and rolls.

Both are made of the same material and can have internal structure. So they are both suited for all brands of vacuum sealers.

A seal bag is ready for use. Just fill it and put it in your sealer. Foil on a roll is essentially a very long bag. First it needs to be cut to the desired length. Then one end can be sealed. In this way you make your own bag, which then can be filled and sealed completely exactly like a normal bag.

Bags are easier and faster to use. They are recommended for packing similar sized objects. Foil on a roll needs first to be cut and then sealed on one end. Therefore it takes at least twice as long to pack your objects using foil on rolls.

When packing a variety of sizes, it is more economical to use rolls. In that case you do not have to pack small items in oversized bags, or buy 50 bags in a size you hardly ever use.

Typically, customers choose bags in those sizes they regularly use and keep additional rolls for those cases a small or large item needs to be packed. Marmelot offers bags in a large variety of sizes. All bags with internal structure are sold in packs of 50 pieces. Plain bags in packs of 100 pieces. Rolls with internal structure come in 20, 25 and 30cm wide. The rolls are 6 m long and there are 2 rolls per pack (so 12 meter foil in total).

When choosing your sizes keep in mind that you need about 3-5 cm longer bags so you can put the end in the sealer. Also note that our bags and rolls have a seal on the side of about 4-5mm. All mentioned sizes are the external dimensions. The internal space is therefore slightly less.

Technical Details

All marmelot bags -both plain as well as with internal structure - consist of two layers plastic: 20 micron polyamide and 70 micron polyethylene (Pa-Pe 20/70). This combination is ideal for vacuum seal bags. The double layer results in a strong and relatively impenetrable bag for both air and moisture. The polyamide layer keeps air out and all flavour inside the bag. The polyethylene keeps moisture out. The two materials are thus complementary and result in a safe packing. Both materials have no smell or flavour, and are chemically resistant. This makes them very safe to store food items for prolonged periods of time. They comply with all European and UK regulations regarding materials safety for food packing and storage. The bags are transparent and can be easily sealed.
The use of high quality bags is important for an optimal protection of your products.

The bags can be heated in air and water up to 90 C. They are therefore suitable for freezers, refrigerators as well as vacuum cooking. Note however that they are not cooking bags and should not be used in boiling hot water, in ovens or any kind of steam or pressure cooking. Use in microwave ovens should be limited to briefly warming or reheating your food, preventing temperatures above 90C.

Bags and rolls are made by sealing 2 layers of the 90 micron double-layered PA-Pe material together. The bags have 4-5 mm wide seals on three side. The open side is always on a narrow end. Rolls have the 4-5 mm wide seals on two sides.
